progress of your child after classes. The Early Learners Club helps the
students to do their homework and to create their own study habit.

supervision. The program is for kids from 3 to 9 years old, from Monday

Just Read Program: Just Read is a reading program designed to
increase reading outside the classroom and help parents promote literary
interest. Its design purposefully integrates the cognitive,
motivational, and social aspects of reading. The overarching goal of the
program is to increase independent reading for students of all
achievement levels while improving attitudes toward books and reading.
| The objectives of this
program are: |

for reading allowing them to visualize books as means to
learn and have fun.

opportunities for students to practice their reading habits
and skills.
- Develop students'
critical thinking skills.
- Actively engage parents
and guardians in the reading activities throughout the
school year.

parents and guardians that will help them promote literacy
behaviors at home.

United Nations Model: United Nations Model is considered as one
of the most important learning experiences to prepare students to live
in a global society. This activity is an authentic simulation of the UN
that introduces students to diplomatic and negotiation world. The
students are known as "delegates" from different countries and prepare
solutions, argumentative strategies, and negotiate with allied and
adversary countries. The debates are related to peace, security,
politics, human rights, environment, poverty and hunger, among others.
In these debates, hundreds of delegations participate, following a
certain protocol to hold sessions. Our students have participated in
several models in the Dominican Republic and New York City. Last year
our school held the first New Horizons United Nations Model, with the
participation of almost 300 students from 5 different high schools.
Community Projects
"Social Work": We believe that values are better learned through
community projects where students are exposed to direct experiences with
the people they are helping.
From Toddlers to twelfth grade an institution is selected to be helped
by our students during the school year (i.e: nursing homes, schools for
students with special needs, orphanages). Students collect money to buy
food, medicine, school supplies, and toys.
They also share experiences, interact, and spend individual time with
the people in these institutions. We have had an excellent response from
parents helping us with these projects.
"Estrellas" Program: It is a unique program designed to
incorporate concepts learned in the classroom environment with their
real-world applications and with a sense of social work. This program
integrates different fields of study:
- Biology
- Community action
- Journalism
- Photography
- Public Health
- Information Technology/Web Design
Students that participate in the ESTRELLAS Program are exposed to a
team-oriented, interdisciplinary approach of education, the goal of
which is to expand the horizons of each participant:
- Learn the applications of
classroom concepts as they apply to everyday life.
- Gain a first-hand base of
knowledge via actually seeing at-risk people/children in the
community.
- Work to disseminate
important information to the general public via the concept
of "community action" using both hands-on measures as well
as the Internet.
